人間の存在意義は"役割"によってしか肯定されないのか。

－「変身」

歴史はたいてい役所仕事によって創作されるのです。

1769年。女性は自らの意思とは無関係に、生まれ故郷であるオーストリアからフランスに送り込まれ、
「政治の道具」としての役割を押し付けられました。
その20年後には革命が始まり、権力、家庭、子供たちを奪われる中で、彼女は虚飾を脱ぎ捨てました。

実存主義では、極限状態－死の恐怖－において人間は真の自己と向き合うとされますが、
彼女は投獄され、公開裁判を受け、最後は死刑を受け入れることで、
誰にも依存しない「1人の女性」としての存在を確立しました。
誰よりも貴族的な生き方を貫いた女性として、マリー・アントワネットは人びとの記憶に深く刻まれています。
実存主義的思考から見る彼女の生涯は、
極めてドラマチックな「自己創造」と「不条理との対峙」の物語として捉えることができます。

実存主義は「実存は本質に先立つ－人間はまず存在し、
その後自らの行動で自分を定義する－」というジャン＝ポール・サルトルの思想に代表されますが、
アントワネットは、王妃という決定された役割から、
最終的に孤独な「1人の人間（アントワネット・マリー）」へと自らの存在を確立しました。

他方で、ある朝目覚めると巨大な毒虫になっていた男、グレゴール・ザムザを描いた、
不条理文学の金字塔『変身』（1915年、フランツ・カフカ著）は、人間が社会や周囲の状況によって「モノ」のように扱われ、
居場所を失っていく絶望を不条理演劇のモチーフとして、今なお強く訴えかけています。
2026-27年秋冬は、現代における実存と不条理が下地となっています。

ランウェイショーは今、その伝記が再び肉体や物質、布地へと変容する礼典となるのです。
作品群は日常的な用途から切り離され、隔離され、強調され、熟考される価値のあるものと標榜します。
中世的なイメージを考古学的なアプローチで探究する過程で生まれた、
古代的でありながらも現代的な本質的存在です。

不条理は、この伝達を可能にするメディウムへと変化します。
すると、衣服は最早、消費の対象ではなく、聖なる価値あるものとして立ち現れる…
一度立ち止まり、耳を傾け、思考を凝らす心構えを必要とする存在へとなり得ます。

不条理は、単なる悲劇でも、歴史的な引用でも、舞台装置でもありません。
装いにおける他者との距離、現実と非現実、あるいは超現実…の関係を問いかける
整然なるアティチュードを体現しています。
それは、画一的な視線や思考に侵食されることのない、
与えられた役割が剥がれ落ちた時に遺る、純粋な欲望と尊厳なのです。

The name “mukcyen” is a coined word derived from the Chinese pronunciation of the designer’s surname, “mù cūn.”

Abstract and without inherent meaning, the name embodies a sincere belief that by imbuing it with the history and culture one builds oneself, it can be given a meaning unlike any other.

Focusing on the complexity of human nature and the fluidity of time, the brand begins with an obsession with death born from an almost excessive belief in the vitality of life. By intersecting cultural elements such as cult cinema and literature, mukcyen creates its own distinctive image of humanity.

It emerges as a form of “dress”—one that seeks to share and desire the nature of human relationships.

Is the meaning of human existence only affirmed through the “roles” we are assigned?

— The Metamorphosis

“History is, for the most part, created through bureaucratic work.”

— Franz Kafka

In 1769, a woman was sent from her homeland of Austria to France against her own will, forced into the role of a “political tool.”

Twenty years later, revolution began. As she was stripped of her power, her family, and her children, she gradually shed the layers of ornamentation that had defined her.

Existentialism suggests that, in extreme situations—the fear of death—human beings are forced to confront their true selves. Imprisoned, subjected to a public trial, and ultimately accepting her death sentence, she established herself as an independent “woman,” no longer defined through her dependence on anyone else.

As a woman who maintained an aristocratic way of life to the very end, Marie Antoinette remains deeply etched in the collective memory. Viewed through an existentialist lens, her life can be understood as an intensely dramatic story of “self-creation” and an encounter with the absurd.

Existentialism is often represented by Jean-Paul Sartre’s proposition that “existence precedes essence”—that human beings first exist, and then define themselves through their actions.

Marie Antoinette, however, ultimately moved beyond the predetermined role of the Queen, establishing her existence as a solitary “human being”—Antoinette Marie.

On the other hand, Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis (1915), a landmark work of literature of the absurd, depicts Gregor Samsa, a man who awakens one morning to find himself transformed into a gigantic insect. It continues to powerfully evoke the despair of being treated as a “thing” by society and one’s surrounding circumstances, and of gradually losing one’s place within the world.

The Autumn/Winter 2026–27 collection takes contemporary existence and the absurd as its foundation.

The runway show now becomes a ceremonial act through which this biography is once again transformed into the body, into matter, and into fabric.

The works are detached from their everyday functions, isolated, emphasized, and presented as objects worthy of contemplation.

Born through an archaeological exploration of medieval imagery, they embody an essential existence that is simultaneously archaic and contemporary.

The absurd transforms into the medium through which this transmission becomes possible.

Clothing is no longer merely an object of consumption. Instead, it emerges as something sacred and worthy of value—an existence that demands the willingness to pause, to listen, and to contemplate.

The absurd is neither merely tragedy, nor historical quotation, nor stage scenery.

It embodies a composed attitude that questions the distances between oneself and others through dress, between reality and unreality, and even the surreal.

It is pure desire and dignity that remain once the roles imposed upon us have fallen away—untouched by uniform ways of seeing and thinking.
